  • Begin work only after engine is cool. A hot engine can produce pressure in the cooling system.
  • Locate thermostat by following upper radiator hose away from the radiator to thermostat housing.
  • With basin under hose to catch coolant, it is safe to remove clamp from hose where it attaches to the thermostat housing. (Warning: Coolant is extremely toxic and needs to be disposed of properly.)
  • Remove the housing by loosening the bolts, inside you will find the thermostat.
  • Remove old thermostat and clean the area of debris and all remnants of the old gasket.
  • Position new thermostat and gasket on housing.
  • Replace bolts snuggly.
  • Reattach the hose with clamp.
  • Start vehicle and check for leaks and coolant level.
