1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS:
In 1970 Chevrolet introduced the 454 cubic-inch big-block V8 to create the most powerful Chevelle SS ever produced. More than 60,000 Chevelle SSs were built in that year with less than 10,000 equipped with the 454. This car, unfortunately, does not have that engine--it is equipped with a 402 cubic-inch V8 that produced 350 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. This engine allowed the car to go from 0 to 60 MPH in about 7 seconds.
The Chevelle SS receives a “B” on the Sports Car Market Collectability Scale, making it a rather sound investment. Auction values have steadily risen from $26,000 in 2002 to just under $60,000 in 2006. Our experts appraised this example at $45,000, a reasonable number for an excellent example of a 1970 Chevelle SS.
