1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28:
Chevrolet began building Z/28s in 1967 and only built 602 of them that year. That figure jumped to over 7,000 units in 1968. This was the only Camaro limited to one engine, a 302 cubic-inch V8 producing 290 horsepower. That engine was more than ample for the car’s 3,100 lbs, and was able to cover the quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds. The ’68 Z/28 was an impressive car that showed its racing heritage. A new 1968 Camaro Z/28 cost a bit more than $3,000, $400 over the price of a base Camaro.
Auction values have steadily increased over the past five years. 2002 saw cars selling for about $24,500. By 2006 the average auction sale was up to $57,191. Only time will tell the future of the Z/28 market, but as things stand now it looks to be a good investment. Our experts appraised this car at $58,000. With a “B” on the Sports Car Market Collectability Scale, we weren’t surprised to learn that this fine example of a Z/28 sold for $63,500.
