1967 Pontiac Firebird:
The Firebird wasn’t a hit in the vein of the Mustang or Impala, but Pontiac still managed to sell over 15,000 convertibles in 1967 alone. The base price of $3,524.09 would get you a car that could go from 0 to 60 MPH in 6.2 seconds and cover the quarter-mile in just under 15 seconds. The top engine offered in 1967 was a 400 cubic-inch Ram Air V8 that produced 325 horsepower. Although the Ram Air option was priced at $600, it offered no official performance benefits and was rarely ordered.
Firebird values have fluctuated a bit in the past five years. 2002 saw average auction sales of just over $11,000. That number dropped to about $7,500 in 2004 and shot up to over $18,000 in 2006. Fern’s mystery Firebird ranks a “C” on the Sports Car Market Collectability Scale and he should have no problem getting the $32,000 our experts appraised the
car at.
