1956 Mercury Montclair:
The Montclair was extremely recognizable on the road in 1956. Mercury built over 50,000 of them, making spotting one on the local strip a fairly easy task and when you saw one, it was a sight to behold: two-tone paint and chrome all over. If you were lucky enough to spot a
“Sun Valley” model, you’d be one of very few to see the Plexiglas bubble in place of the front half of its roof—they only made 1,500 of them. With a 210-horsepower V8 paired with a Merc-O-Matic transmission, this car wasn't very fast. This was due, in part, to its hefty curb weight of 3,620 lbs, but its style was all that mattered to Mercury customers.
This particular Montclair has never been restored and is part of Bill Miller’s personal collection. Bill has no plans to sell this on the Sports Car Market "C" Collectability Scale, certainly not at the $18,000 appraisal given by our experts.
